Perimeter Support
Clear help for uncertain signals.
Start with the checks below. Perimeter reports technical observations and patterns; it is not an emergency service.
Permissions
Open iPhone Settings, find Perimeter, and confirm the permission the feature you are using needs. Bluetooth supports nearby-signal observations, Notifications supports alerts, Local Network supports the network part of a Place Check, and Location supports movement context for Tracker Protection and Journey Mode.
Bluetooth and Area Scans
Confirm Bluetooth is on, move closer to the area you want to review, then tap Scan area on the Now screen. An Area Scan is a focused Bluetooth snapshot, not proof that a space is clear. Some devices advertise only at certain moments, and connected, silent, or unsupported devices may not appear.
Background Awareness
Background Awareness keeps lower-volume Bluetooth monitoring running between Area Scans, and ending an Area Scan does not turn it off. iOS may wake Perimeter for supported Bluetooth events, but background awareness is slower and less complete than a scan you run with the app open. Do not rely on it as a constant real-time monitor.
Notifications
In Settings, confirm notifications are allowed for Perimeter and that the alert styles you want are enabled. Focus modes and notification summaries may delay how an alert is presented. Alert Sensitivity in Perimeter’s own Settings controls how readily a candidate is raised.
Place Check
Open the Check tab and start a Guided Room Check or a Car Sweep. One signal check monitors supported Bluetooth signatures and checks the Wi-Fi network this iPhone is using. Lens and photo tools and a guided physical check are available underneath. Your work saves automatically, so leaving mid-check costs nothing. Reference photos belong to the open place: Close Out keeps the completed record and its copied photos, while deleting the place does not.
Journey Mode
Use Journey Mode when you are leaving somewhere and want Perimeter to look sooner for a tracker-like signal that continues travelling with you. It watches for a period you choose and then ends on its own.
Records
The Records tab lists findings that still need a decision under Needs review. Everything you have already handled or saved lives under Saved activity: Reviewed findings, Journeys, Familiar places, Place checks, and Area scans. Dismissing a finding removes it from Needs review only — the underlying observation evidence stays in Records.
Supported devices and unknown signals
An unfamiliar device may be nearby without being supported or classifiable, and Perimeter would rather say so than guess. A supported smart-glasses signal may indicate that a compatible model is nearby; it does not reveal recording status, ownership, or identity.
False positives and false negatives
Wireless environments are noisy. Ordinary devices may resemble relevant signals, and relevant devices may remain silent or unavailable. Review the confidence, timing, and supporting evidence instead of treating one observation as proof.
Physical trackers and NFC
Use the physical-tracker workflow when you have a tag in hand. Start the NFC reader, then hold the top of your iPhone near the tag until iOS responds. Perimeter can read compatible NFC tags only; NFC does not scan a room, identify every tracker, or locate a device that is not in hand.
Contact support
Email hello@perimeterprivacy.com with the Perimeter version, your iPhone model and iOS version, the steps you took, what happened, and what you expected. Do not paste raw radio details or sensitive location information into the message.
Clearing local history
Settings → Clear History permanently removes local detection records, Journeys, Familiar Place profiles, Check records and drafts, photos held by those records, physical-tracker records, and their locally stored history. Your app preferences are kept. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
